As part of the SOTO school district Master Plan, the soccer site required a Fieldhouse and concessions. Through a grant opportunity, a portion of the building will include a FEMA Safe Room. The steep grade change between the parking lot above and the field below (approximately 12 feet) provided the ideal condition to nestle the new facility / Safe Room into the hillside and design a rooftop viewing terrace overlooking the field.
Between the existing bleachers and the new Fieldhouse, a plaza connects the spectators and athletes to the field. The accessible ramp meanders down the slope, conveniently defining a grassy hillside area for casual viewing and leisure.
