Joel E. Barber Safe Room
The Laclede County C-5 School District, Joel E. Barber K-8 campus’s New FEMA Safe Room will house 878 students, staff and surrounding community. This 6,718 sq. ft. new FEMA Safe Room will serve the school and community as a safe haven during high wind events and as a dual-use Multi-purpose Room for the campus. This flexible space will provide additional athletic space as well as a commons area for various activities and programs throughout the year. A 970 sq ft connecting entry corridor connects the safe room to the kindergarten wing and the rest of the facility. In addition, the design of the safe room and location on campus allows the new connector entry to serve as the main entrance to future additions.
