Mark Twain Safe Room

The Springfield School District passed a major bond issue for $168 million in 2019, this bond issue included many different projects for the school district. Mark Twain Safe Room was not one of the projects slated for this round of the bond issues but due to many of the projects coming in under budget Springfield School District was able to move forward with this project. The Safe Room and connecting corridor have increased Mark Twain Elementary by 10,188sq ft. This Safe room provides a large gym area and music classroom/stage and is rated to ICC 500 Standards. This will provide the school with a separate gym area, right now they have a gym/cafeteria combination. This saferoom will allow their school to function more efficiently. The Safe Room can hold 830 occupants and will be opened to the community in the event of a storm. This will accommodate the entire school occupancy as well as several community members.
