High School Safe Room
The second FEMA project designed for the Nixa Public School District was another Community Safe Room at their High School Campus. With a student population of around 1,600 students and the High School location surrounded by residential neighborhoods put the occupancy of this Community Safe Room at 2,238 occupants. Because of site constraints and an existing multi-story building, a two-story FEMA shelter provided the best option by bringing students in on multiple levels. The upper floor contains a wrestling gym, offices, and restrooms and the lower floor includes a weight room.
