This New Library will replace the undersized and outdated Boardwalk branch.  It includes a Culinary Literacy Center and three full-service commercial incubator kitchens.  The Culinary Literacy Program will be focused on teaching the public basic cooking skills, how to cook and eat healthily, how to have fun cooking, and how cooking can provide learning opportunities by reading recipes and using math for measurements.  The Incubator Kitchens will be available to aspiring small businesses who are ready to leave their home kitchen, but not quite ready to commit financially to their own full-time commercial kitchen.  Square One Small Business Services, headquartered in the new Colbern Road Library Center, will assist these aspiring cooks with business planning for their new venture.  The Incubator Kitchens will also provide a home base for Food Trucks in the City of KC to use for food prep and storage if desired.

This project is part of the Library’s Capital Improvement Plan made possible by funds from Proposition L. The architects are SAPP Design (Springfield & Kansas City, MO) and Helix Architecture and Design, Inc. (Kansas City, MO), and the construction firm for all projects is JE Dunn.
