Tonganoxie Public Library

The new Tonganoxie Public Library opened in the spring of 2020 nearly doubling the size of their previous facility. In addition to more circulation space, they now have three collaboration spaces, a new state-of-the-art community room, adult lounge area, teen gaming area, coffee cafe, two patios, fireplace, self-check system, and enhanced technology throughout the facility. The children’s area features an interactive wall with soft seating for parents and the workroom helps to keep the staff more functional by giving them space to repair, sort, and organize the collection. Additionally, salvaged elements of the demolished Elementary School are incorporated throughout the building — carrying the memories of this treasured site to the new facility.

The new Tonganoxie Public Library was part of an approved $3.1 Million plan to replace and expand the existing library, moving it three blocks west at the site of the original Tonganoxie Elementary School. As library design experts Sapp Design served as the Design Architect of Record to work with JE Dunn Construction, the Tonganoxie Library Board, the City of Tonganoxie, and Library Director, Nicole Holifield, to create a new landmark and to help serve the community for generations to come.
