The New Junior High is 142,000 sf building is organized by a linear two story gallery which bisects the public and academic spaces of the building.  The academic areas of the building are organized around a secured open courtyard which is wrapped by two story steel and glass construction comprised of eight academic neighborhoods.  Each of the neighborhoods individual classrooms focuses on a larger central collaborative learning space for varied learning environments.  The library is located on the second floor overlooking both the exterior courtyard and the main gallery.  The public functions of the building include the Gymnasium and Cafeteria which are large open long span spaces and are constructed of Precast concrete walls and Double Tee roof construction. The introduction of the Precast also allowed for an economical construction of the ICC 500 rated Storm Shelter for the occupants of the building.  The building also incorporates enhanced security and access control features with the overall building courtyard and site design consistent with CPTED strategies.
