This single story 10,700 sq ft. facility consists of a 3 bay drive-thru apparatus structure and a connecting 6,700 sq. ft. living quarters, office, day room, full kitchen, exercise/training facilities and Community Room. A shingle roof, brick and EIFS veneer on the building provide a residential feel to blend with the surrounding properties while maintaining a modern fire station facade.

Other features include an exhaust capture system, radiant heat system and a hazardous materials response base. The Springfield Fire Department contracted with Sapp Design Architects to design their new Fire Station No. 12 which is located on the fringes of a residential area. One of the key design requirements was to provide a facility that exemplified a fire station but blended with the surrounding residential architecture. The Facility was designed as a Prototype station which would be used for future locations in the City. Also, Walking trails were incorporated on the Site for Community use.
