Phelps County R-III Schools’ FEMA 361 Tornado Saferoom is designed for a population of 284 (total students, teachers and staff). The FEMA Saferoom will be approximately 2,680 sf +/- and will be multi-purpose in that the Saferoom will also function as Preschool/Kindergarten and 1st Grade classroom space during normal everyday conditions. The Saferoom will also have restroom facilities for use by teachers and staff, necessary Mechanical room space, storage space for FEMA supplies (ie: water, flashlights, emergency first aid supplies, etc…) and a hardened room for the Emergency back-up power generator. The project budget is approximately $780,000 with FEMA grant reimbursement in the amount of $413,438. Construction is anticipated to begin Spring (2014) with construction being completed in Spring (2015).
