The second FEMA project designed for the Nixa Public School District is for the High School. The student population is around 1,600 students and the High School, like the Junior High, is surrounded by residential neighborhoods. The large service area puts the occupancy of the High School safe room at 2,238 occupants.
Because of site constraints and an existing multi-story building, a two-story FEMA shelter is the best option. The upper floor contains a wrestling gym, offices, and restrooms and the lower floor includes a weight room.
