Central Elementary School was designed for an initial population of 300 K-6 students and in Phase II was expanded to 600 students. Special emphasis was given to creating memorable images for the students to identify with, both at the larger scale of the building itself, as well as smaller scale interior landmarks. By organizing groups of four classrooms around common entry nodes, and by use of color, each group can have a uniqueness with which students can identify. The art room and the library border the entry vestibule, which allows for the display of students’ work at the heart of the complex. A multi-purpose area containing the gymnasium, stage, and a dining area has been designed to allow for multiple isolated uses, or as one large assembly space. The school boasts a state-of-the-art computer network system.
